Team USA

Jennie Arseneault • Grinnell, Iowa

Jennie Arseneault was named an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American last season after winning the Midwest Junior Players Championship and Pepsi Little Peoples Championship.

Although she has yet to ink a stroke play victory in 2005, she has placed second three times (Midwest Junior Player’s Championship, Future Legends, Hiwan Junior) and third twice (Wildcat Golf/Wichita Junior Championship, OSSO Junior at Oak Tree) . Additionally, she was a member of the victorious Canon Cup West Team.

Lila Barton • Dallas, Texas

Lila Barton holds the distinction of winning the AJGA’s Justin Leonard/Deloitte Junior Team Championship back-to-back in 2004 and 2005, combining efforts with Sydney Burlison both times. She tied for third at two AJGA events her home state of Texas this season: the Randy Smith Classic (Lubbock) and the Valero Texas Open Junior Shootout (San Antonio).

This honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American has three more top-10 AJGA finishes in her young career. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Sydney Burlison • Salinas, Calif.

Sydney Burlison first made noise at the national level when she qualified for the 2003 U.S. Women’s Open as a 13-year-old. Last year, she was named to the Rolex Junior All-America second team after winning the Justin Leonard/Deloitte Junior Team Championship and finishing in the top 10 in three prestigious AJGA events: the Rolex Tournament of Champions (T-5); the Heather Farr Classic (6th), and the Rolex Girls Junior Championship (9th).

This season, she repeated at the Justin Leonard event with Lila Barton, won the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship in Houston and posted three more top-10 finishes. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Esther Choe • Scottsdale, Ariz.

Esther Choe was named a first-team Rolex Junior All-American after a 2004 season that included six top-10 finishes in AJGA events and a victory at the British Junior Open Championships.

In 2005, she found a way to one-up herself by qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open and winning two AJGA events, her second and third of her career. One of these wins came at the Rolex Tournament of Champions, a perennial gathering of the nation’s top players. At Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C., she came from four strokes back in nine holes on the weather-shortened final round to claim the prestigious title. She returns to the PING Junior Solheim Cup after posting a 2-1-0 record in 2003 in Sweden.

Kimberly Donovan • Hopkinton, Mass.

Kimberly Donovan began her year by winning the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan and added a second victory soon after at the Scott Robertson Memorial. She also has four more top-10 AJGA finishes in 2005, including a tie for second at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship due a final-round 66.

She recently tied for 15th during U.S. Women’s Amateur stroke play qualifying, advancing her to the match play portion of this USGA event. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Megan Grehan • Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Megan Grehan is a two-time Rolex Junior All-American with two AJGA titles to her credit. She won her first tournament in 2002 and has since added 10 top-five finishes to her resume. She also made appearances at the 2004 and 2005 U.S. Women’s Opens.

This season she finished tied for second at the Rolex Tournament of Champions with Jane Rah and second again at the Lessing’s AJGA Classic on Long Island. Add to this a fifth-place finish at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and a tie for ninth at the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, both AJGA Invitationals, and there is little doubt that Grehan has positioned herself as one of the top players in the country. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Taylore Karle •.Scottsdale, Ariz.

Taylore Karle, who turned 15 in June, is another youngster on this year’s team. She has three AJGA wins to her credit, with the most recent coming at this year’s Randy Smith Classic in Lubbock, Texas. After placing second behind Sydney Burlison at the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship, Karle placed in the top 20 at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship (T-15), Rolex Tournament of Champions (T-17) and the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship (T-15).

She was the medalist at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in July with scores of 63 and 67. She eventually was upset by the 32nd seed in the second round of match play. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Kimberly Kim • Pahoa, Hawaii

After qualifying for match play at this year’s U.S. Junior Girls’ Championship, Kimberly Kim, the youngest player on the U.S. team, made it to the round of 16 before being defeated by eventual runner-up In-Bee Park. She won her first AJGA event last year as a 12-year-old at the I.R.I. Golf Group Sun Willows Junior (Pasco, Wash.), setting the record for the youngest player to win an AJGA Open event in the Association’s history.

This honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American finished tied for fourth at this year’s PING Junior at The Woodlands and third at the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Sydnee Michaels • Temecula, Calif.

Sydnee Michaels helped secure her spot on the United States team by winning the Pacific Northwest International Junior and Mission Hills Desert Junior this year. In doing so, she played against and beat the best the West Coast had to offer, posting 67-72-69–208 and 74-70-70–214 tournament totals, respectively.

At the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, she finished sixth in stroke play qualifying and advanced to the quarterfinals before being ousted by eventual runner-up In-Bee Park. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Morgan Pressel • Boca Raton, Fla

Morgan Pressel’s storied junior golf career will most likely end the week of the PING Junior Solheim Cup. She first made national headlines at the age of 12 when she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open in 2001, the youngest player in history to do so. She has since played in two more U.S. Women’s Opens (2003, 2005), most recently finishing tied for second this year at Cherry Hills.

With her early success as a 12-year-old, expectations for Pressel soared. She has easily surpassed these expectations, winning 11 times in AJGA events, including all five AJGA Invitational events in which she was eligible to play. Only one other player – boy or girl – has achieved this feat in the Association’s 27-year history: Kellee Booth in the early 90s. Back then, however, the AJGA staged only four invitationals in which she could compete (the Thunderbird International Junior did not begin until 2000).

Even more impressive is the rapid pace at which Pressel claimed these five titles, taking slightly more than a year to do it. Her first invitational win came at the Rolex Tournament of Champions July 9, 2004. She then won the Polo Golf Junior Classic (Nov. 26, 2004), Thunderbird International Junior (May 30, 2005), Rolex Girls Junior Championship (June 17, 2005), and finally the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship (July 28, 2005). Add to this distinction that she was a member of victorious teams at the PING Junior Solheim Cup (2002) and Canon Cup (2004), and there is little doubt that Pressel is one of the all-time great junior golfers.

Her 11 AJGA titles puts her tied for sixth with Paula Creamer in the AJGA record book, behind Kellee Booth (18), Grace Park (18), Leigh Anne Hardin (18), Beth Bauer (17) and Vicki Goetze-Ackerman (15). Along the way, she has been named a Rolex Junior All-American four times, including a first-team selection in 2003 and 2004.

Jane Rah • Torrance, Calif.

While Jane Rah has yet to win an AJGA event, she is a mainstay atop junior golf leaderboards around the country. Then again, as the second youngest player on the U.S. Team at 14 years old, she still has plenty of time for AJGA titles. Last year, she won the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship with a 71-73-71–215 tournament total.

In 2005, she has placed second three times: MCI Junior Heritage; Pacific Northwest International Junior and the Rolex Tournament of Champions. In her short national career, she has already compiled 10 top-five finishes in national junior events. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Catherina Wang • Orlando, Fla.

Catherina Wang joined Burlison on the Rolex Junior All-America second team last year after winning three AJGA events: Fidelity Investments Junior Classic (Boston); Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic (Ringgold, Ga.), and the Dunlop Carolina Junior (Greenville, S.C.).

This season she has added a fourth AJGA title to her resume at the Randall Parker Shootout at Wild Quail (Wyoming, Del.) when she fired a 68-72-72–212 tournament total. She has posted three more top-10 finishes this year in AJGA events, including a tie for seventh at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship. This will be her first appearance on the PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.
