It is almost impossible to find a golf fan who does not enjoy watching Phil Mickelson play. The AJGA alumnus and Arizona State graduate has carved a remarkable professional career for himself. His 30 PGA TOUR victories speak for themselves, but there is so much more to Mickelson.
Mickelson plays the game with a gentle gait and a smile on his face. He is more than a golfer. He is a player who knows the game and respects its tradition. Mickelson learned these values early in his life, kept them with him throughout his amateur career and displays them weekly as the consummate professional.

Mickelson won his first AJGA event as a 14-year-old at the Lake Tahoe Memorial Junior by five strokes. The following summer, Mickelson landed the first of his three Rolex Tournament of Champions crowns, a record that still stands today. He also holds the record for most AJGA Boys Division wins with 12. No one else has more than eight career victories.
Following his stellar AJGA career, Mickelson starred for Arizona State University. He set numerous records as a member of the Sun Devil squad, none more impressive than winning the NCAA individual title three times.
In 1990, Mickelson won both the U.S. Amateur and NCAA Championship. The southpaw was also the last player to capture a PGA TOUR event as an amateur, winning the Northern Telecom Open while attending Arizona State.
“Phil represents what we hope to instill and inspire in our members. He earned his degree, even after claiming the title on the PGA TOUR and he has grown and matured into a well grounded family man,” said AJGA Executive Director Stephen Hamblin.
