Top seeds fall in first and second rounds of match play
Match play produced another set of exciting finishes, as 16 players won a pair of matches to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals at Ginn Reunion Resort. On the day, 13 matches extended to the 18th hole or later and five went to extra holes. All four of the stroke play co-medalists failed to advance past day one, while the two No. 3 seeds - Patrick Winther of Rungsted Kyst, Denmark, and Stephanie Kim of Orlando, Fla. - remain in each division.
Of the final eight in the Boys Division, three are international players. Joining Winther are Juan Pablo Hernandez of Mexico City, Mexico, and Niclas Carlsson of Enebyberg, Sweden. The Girls Division features Jenny Shin of Torrance, Calif., who won the 2006 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, and Victoria Kiser of Orlando, Fla., who won four AJGA events in 2008.
