Watson Course Shows its Fengs
At the end of the day, it all came down to two girls named Feng. As Cindy Feng approached the 18th tee and Simin Feng was just ahead in the fairway, they shared a two-shot lead. Simin's approach found the back rough, where she just missed her up-and-down to fall back by one shot.
Cindy Feng, playing in the final group of the day, hit her approach short into a low area just short of the green, requiring a pitch over the front bank of the green. Her pitch shot settled five feet left of the cup. Cindy calmly hit the center of the cup to maintain the one-stroke lead at day's end.
It has been an impressive showing for the alternate who earned her place in the field after Daisy Nelson of Denmark withdrew the day before the practice round. By the time Cindy was confirmed into the field, the practice round was already under way.
