Jordan Spieth rises to the top of the leaderboard after the second round

Spieth
Jordan Spieth

Sedgefield Country Club started to show its teeth, but Jordan Spieth bit back. The Dallas native shot 31 on the front nine and built a three-shot cushion, but bogeys on Nos. 10, 11 and 13 kept him from making this a runaway. Spieth fought back, and with birdies on three of his final four holes, he regained a three-shot lead and is at 8-under-par after two rounds at the FootJoy Invitational.

Ian McConnell of Riverview, Fla., briefly held the lead before Spieth's birdie barrage, and finished the day three shots back at 5-under-par. A trio of players sit four shots back in third place - Jim Liu of Smithtown, N.Y., Richard Werenski of South Hadley, Mass., and Tom Lovelady of Birmingham, Ala. In all, 15 players have posted sub-par 36-hole totals.

The top of the leaderboard hasn't seen a lot of movement, but there is a new leader on the course. Jordan Spieth of Dallas, birdied two of his first four holes and has taken a one-shot lead at 6-under-par. First-round leader M.J. Maguire of St. Petersburg, Fla., is even-par on the day and is one shot back.
