Two for the Price of One...
Thomas claims FootJoy Invitational title, Wyndham Championship exemption

Justin Thomas carded an 8-under-par total to earn his first
AJGA Invitational victory and an exemption to the
Wyndham Championship

When Justin Thomas misses the first week of school this fall, do you think the PGA TOUR will write a note of excuse? Right now, it's the least of Thomas' worries after he carded an
8-under-par total for his first AJGA Invitational victory and an exemption to the PGA TOUR's Wyndham Championship, Aug. 17-23, 2009.

Thomas started Friday's round three shots behind leaders Jordan Spieth and Ian McConnell, but carded four birdies on the front nine to steadily cut into the lead. On the back nine, birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 17 turned a two-shot deficit into a two-shot cushion as he played the 18th hole. A bogey on the closing hole was nothing but a cosmetic blemish, as his lead held up and he earned the right to hoist the Champion's trophy.

Anthony Paolucci and Tom Lovelady finished second at 6-under-par, while Spieth finished fourth and Richard Werenski finished fifth.

Creating Separation...
Front-nine 33 gives Werenski lead at the turn

Richard Werenski

A bogey on the opening hole did not deter Richard Werenski. Instead, he responded with birdies on three of his next five holes, which has given him the lead heading to the back nine. His 9-under-par total is two better than Tom Lovelady, and three better than Justin Thomas.

The third-round leaders have started to succumb to Sedgefield's demanding greens, as Jordan Spieth and Ian McConnell have fallen off Werenski's pace.

Eyes on the Prize...
Seven players within two shots of the lead as the final round begins at Sedgefield

Top - The Champion's trophy was on display in the starting tent during the final round.
Bottom - The final threesome with the standard bearer.

Since 2002, the FootJoy Invitational has crowned seven deserving champions. One more player will be etched into the Champion's trophy this afternoon, as the final groups have teed off at Sedgefield Country Club.

Jordan Spieth and Ian McConnell hold the lead at 8-under-par, but five other players are within two shots of the lead. Four players in the final three groups birdied the opening hole, so rapid movement atop the leaderboard is certain.
