Schniederjans, Thompson Survive, Earn Polo Junior Golf Classic Crowns

Oliver Schniederjans and Alexis Thompson came out on top as champions after five days of golf at the Polo Golf Junior Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa.
Schniederjans earned his first career AJGA victory by winning his match against Cory Whitsett, 1-up. The match was either at all square or 1-up for either player for all 18 holes. Schniederjans and Whitsett traded pars on No. 18, which sealed the win.
Thompson took control of her match with Victoria Tanco on No. 11, going 2-up after Tanco bogeyed the hole. Thompson won the match, 3 and 2.

The championship matches of the Polo Golf Junior Classic have been set in both divisions.
Cory Whitsett of Houston, playing in his first AJGA event since the Thunderbird International Junior in May, defeated fellow Texan Jordan Spieth of Dallas, 2 and 1. Whitsett advanced to the finals and will face Oliver Schniederjans of Powder Springs, Ga., who won his match against Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., 3 and 2. Whitsett is looking for his first victory since winning the Rolex Tournament of Champions in 2008. Schniederjans goes into the final match having never won an AJGA event, with his best finish in 2009 being a second-place showing at The PING Invitational last month.
In the Girls Division, Rolex Junior Player of the Year Victoria Tanco of Bradenton, Fla., was victorious over Kelly Shon of Port Washington, N.Y., 5 and 3. Tanco advances to face Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla. Thompson defeated A.J. Newell of Tampa, Fla., 3 and 1. Tanco and Thompson have met in match play previously. During the 2008 U.S. Girls' Junior, Tanco lost to Thompson, 3 and 2, in the quarterfinals.
Championship matches will tee off at noon on the No. 1 tee of PGA National Resort & Spa's Champion Course.

Semifinal matches are off and running at the Polo Golf Junior Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa.
Two matches in each division will determine who plays in the championship matches this afternoon.
Rolex Junior Players of the Year Jordan Spieth and Victoria Tanco are looking to continue their solid play while the six others look to get their 2010 AJGA season off to a great start.
