Junior Round-up


Peter Uihlein is ranked No. 3 in the Polo Golf Rankings

Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., was victorious last weekend at the St. Augustine Amateur. His 67-67-72-206 was enough to vault him to the lead and land him in a sudden-death playoff with New England Amateur Champion Brad Valois. The 2005 Rolex Junior Player of the Year became the second consecutive junior to win this event after Arnond Vongvanij, also of Bradenton, won it last year.

College Round-up

The Stanford Intercollegiate was held last weekend with great results. Alison Walshe of Arizona and Arkansas's Stacy Lewis tied for the individual honors after shooting matching 6-under-pars. Adriana Zwanck, also of Arizona, and Stanford's Lauren Todd tied for third after shooting 5-under-par. Jacqui Concolino of Vanderbilt was the top finisher for her team who took home the team medalist honors.

Zack Miller of Stanford took home top honors last week at The Prestige at PGA West. His 71-67-69-207 helped him to a three stroke lead over Jay Choe of UC-Irvine and Lucas Lee of UCLA. Miller was also able to help lift Stanford to the team victory.

Detroit's David Byrne finished two shots ahead of the field at the IPFW Fall Classic last week. He finished the tournament at 7-under-par. Travis Meyer of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay finished second at 5-under-par and IPFW's Nathan Hoff finished at 3-under for the event. Detroit took home top team honors.

St. John's Keegan Bradley was the only player to shoot under par at The Tillinghast held last week. His 2-under-par gave him the individual honors. Matt Burroughs of USC-Aiken and Bradley's teammate Matt Ballo, Jr. finished at 3-over tied for second. USC-Aiken took home the top team honors.

New Mexico State earned top team honors last week at Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate. Led by Lehua Wise's 2-under-par 214, New Mexico State captured the title by six shots. Ellen Hoeper of Missouri finished two shots back at even-par. San Jose State's Jenelle Gomez finished alone in third at 1-over.

Other Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Chris Condello of Columbia shot a 4-over-par to tie for individual honors last week at the Big 5 Classic. He helped boost his team to top honors...Rhode Island took home team honors last week at the ECAC Div. I Men's Championship on the heels of Jesse Larson's top finish. Teammate Ben Spitz finished tied for second with Adam Petrasovic of Sacred Heart...Tulsa's Sam Korbe finished at 6-over-par to lead the field at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate last week. His teammate Nicolas Geyger finished one shot behind alone in second...Drake's Ross Hamann shot 6-under-par last week at the Big 4 Meet to take home top honors. Iowa State took home the team title led by Chris Baker and Joe Cermak who tied for fourth...Western Carolina's Matt Cook shot a 65-67-132 at the Frank Landrey Invitational last week to take home individual honors and boost his team to victory.

Other Alumni in Women's College Golf...

Siena's Laura Woolgar took home top honors at the Don Mershon Classic last week and helped lead her team to medalist honors...Hillery Wilson of Cincinnati finished at 1-under-par to take home the individual honors at the Cincinnati Fall Classic. Cincinnati also took home team medalist honors...Denver's Stephanie Sherlock won in a playoff over teammate Emily Hoeper at the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic last week. Denver went on to win the team title...Jessica Steward of Miami shot a 7-under-par to take home top honors last week at the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite. Texas Tech took home the team title at the event...Hillery Zeigler of Lamar shot a 2-under-par at the Chris Banister Gamecock Classic to take home the individual title. South Alabama won the team title...Christy Carter of Oral Roberts University helped lead her team to the top honors after shooting a 2-over-par 146 and leading the field by 4 shots at the Kenneth Smith Golf Classic...Austin McDermaid of Oakland University shot a 2-under-par to lead the field by four strokes at the IPFW Fall Classic last week. Bradley took home the team title.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
