AJGA Members to Return to Evian Masters Juniors Cup
International mixed-team event to take place July 19-20 at Evian Masters Golf Club

For the second consecutive year, the American Junior Golf Association will select two girl and two boy AJGA Members under the age of 14 to represent the United States in the Evian Masters Juniors Cup. The event will take place July 19-20, 2008, at the Evian Masters Golf Club in Evian les Bains, France. The Evian Masters Juniors Cup will immediately precede the Evian Masters, which brings together the 90 best female professionals in the world.

Conducted by the French Golf Federation and the European Golf Association, the Evian Masters Juniors Cup is an international mixed individual and team competition that will be decided over two 18-hole rounds. A boys’ and girls’ champion will be crowned along with a Nation’s Cup, a team trophy that will be determined by the three best scores each day.

“As an Association, we are honored to have an opportunity that allows our members to travel the world and represent the United States, all through the game of golf,” AJGA Executive Director Stephen Hamblin said. “We pride ourselves on developing the next generation of golfers, and this is one of many ways we fulfill that goal.”

In an effort to remain objective in the selection of the U.S. team, the AJGA will use its Polo Golf Rankings to award playing spots to the most deserving members. The U.S. team will be announced on the AJGA Web site May 16.

The U.S. Team will be escorted by AJGA Vice President of Player Services Rob Jansen and Pat Saunders, a long-time AJGA Board Member.

For more information on the selection process or eligibility, please contact Jansen at rjansen@ajga.org or (877) 373-2542.

When the competition is complete Sunday, July 20, players will be tournament guests during the Evian Masters practice round and will take part in a player meet-and-greet Tuesday, July 22. Additionally, the three players with the lowest aggregate score – boys and girls combined – will take part in the Rolex Pro-Am Wednesday, July 23.

Last year, the U.S. Team of Erynn Lee of Silverdale, Wash., Grace Na of Oakland, Calif., Jordan Spieth of Dallas, and Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., finished third in the team competition, posting a 438 two-day total. Only Japan (428) and Spain (436) finished the 36-hole event in front of the American squad. Leading the U.S. Team, Thomas finished second in the Boys Division and third overall by carding a two-day 72-70––142 tournament total.
