Players and Families Treat Themselves to Golfing Paradise at Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic

The world class El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, will host the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic August 19-22. This will be the AJGA’s second trip to El Camaleón Golf Club. Also home to the PGA TOUR’s Mayakoba Golf Classic, juniors and spectators alike can look forward to a unique experience.

Hole No. 7

Situated on the southeastern shore of the Yucatán Peninsula, El Camaleón Golf Club features four luxury resorts and an 18-hole golf course seated upon three different ecosystems. The 7,000-yard course is designed by Greg Norman and fits the PGA TOUR’s exact specifications, giving the players a true test of their capabilities.

"The El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba is a wonderful test designed by Greg Norman,” said Larson Segerdahl, tournament director for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. “It has quickly become one of the favorites among players on the PGA TOUR.”

Parents and spectators will find the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic holds more than just a few impressive rounds of golf. The five-star Fairmont Mayakoba hotel is located within the same confines as the golf course, making travel to and from the course easy and convenient. The hotel recently received AAA's Five Diamond Award®, a prestigious honor that sets the Fairmont Mayakoba well above the rest. Condé Nast also recognized the hotel as No. 10 on the Top-15 Central America/Mexico Hotels list. The resort allows everyone to enjoy the travel as much as the tournament, and fosters an environment of relaxation off the course. Players and parents are viewed and treated like PGA TOUR participants and enjoy the services that go along with that.

The Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic provides amenities AJGA golfers may not be accustomed to. The participants will have access to the PGA TOUR locker room and players will receive their own tournament locker for the event. In addition to the locker room setup, players will enjoy metal bag tags, PGA TOUR event yardage and hole locations, PGA TOUR event signage, a pairings party and the test of a truly challenging course.

The pairings are revealed during the pairings party at the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic.

The pairings party is one of the best aspects of the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic and will take place on the beachfront of the Caribbean Sea. The pairings are unveiled for the first time while players and parents enjoy the complimentary dinner provided by the AJGA and the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The pairings party is the same event in style and presentation that is hosted by the PGA TOUR during its own Mayakoba Golf Classic. Parents are invited to enjoy complimentary Greg Norman wine while drinking in the scenery as well.

By experiencing the rigors of travel and the intense competitive atmosphere, juniors will be exposed to a taste of the professional world of golf, further preparing them for their golf career after the AJGA.

“There is no better way to wrap up the summer," points out Segerdahl. "Than to visit a world class, five-star resort located in the Mayan Riviera, right on the Caribbean Sea.”

The AJGA staff and participants couldn’t agree more.
