PING Invitational Volunteers Honored by the AJGA

VolunteersStandard bearers and live scoring volunteers were key to the success of The PING Invitational in 2008

BRASELTON, Ga. — The American Junior Golf Association has recognized The 2008 PING Invitational and the Stillwater community for their outstanding volunteer efforts in 2008. The Volunteer Award is given annually to the AJGA event that builds the model team of volunteers committed to the success of a championship.

Scott Davies, PING Invitational tournament chairman, was in charge of recruiting, training and monitoring all volunteer activity throughout tournament week. For his hard work, the tournament will be formally recognized at the 2009 PING Invitational, held Oct. 9-12, 2009.

“Receiving the AJGA Volunteer Award for the 2008 PING Invitational is great recognition for our volunteer committee and many of the people in our local community that give their time and resources each year,” Davies said. “To me the key to a good tournament is making the players feel special and welcome, the only way to achieve this goal is to get the local community involved in a big way.”

During the Oct. 10-13, 2008, event, Davies’ committee had more than 230 volunteers show their support for junior golf by spending their week working as pace of play officials, live scoring reporters, shuttle drivers, water station attendants, ball spotters and standard bearers. For their efforts, volunteers received a tournament hat and shirt as a uniform, and were given complementary meals while at the event.

Volunteers get organized before the tournament days begin

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of a successful AJGA event,” Preston Etheridge said, PING Invitational tournament director. “There was not a better example of this than those who dedicated their week to our event last October. Most of these volunteers have come back for numerous years and work multiple days, and for that we are truly thankful.”

“On behalf of PING, we would like to thank the AJGA for recognizing the PING Invitational with its 2008 Volunteer Award,” said Jeff Brown, PING player development representative. “The success we have had with the tournament is a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of more than 200 volunteers.”
