Women's Amateur
San Jose, Calif., native Hannah Suh won the 2013 Trans National Amateur title
with a one-shot lead over Ashlan Ramsey. Suh was the only player in the field to card three rounds at par or better. She finished the tournament with a total of 1-under-par 287.
A 2011 Rolex Junior All-American, Suh earned eight top-10 AJGA finishes from 2009-2012, including a victory at the 2011 Trader Joe’s Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst.
A rising sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley, Suh has collected three top-five finishes, including a second place finish at the WSU Cougar Cup.
LPGA TOUR:
Hee Young Park collected her second LPGA TOUR win at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic
after beating Angela Stanford in a 3-hole playoff. Park shot a 6-under-par 65 for a tournament total 26-under-par 258.
Park played in one AJGA event, the 2003 Polo Golf Junior Classic, losing to Inbee Park in the quarterfinals of match play, 4 and 3.
Men's Amateur
Hunter Stewart of Nicholasville, Ky., won the 14th annual Players Amateur
at 14-under-par 202, after rain shortened the tournament to 54 holes. The win earns Stewart a spot in the 2014 PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage.
Stewart collected five top-10 AJGA finishes, including a personal best T6 at 2011 FJ Invitational. He played with the AJGA for four years before committing to Vanderbilt University.
A rising junior at Vanderbilt, Stewart was named a 2011-12 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll and 2013 PING All-Southeast Region Team. As a sophomore, he posted the best stroke average on the team at 72.97 and won medalist honors at the Samford Intercollegiate with a total of 5-under-par 211.
Coming off a win at last month’s Washington State Amateur, Cameron Peck of Olympia, Wash., won the 112th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship
, defeating Hans Reimers of Albany, Ore., in the final match, 7 and 6.
Named the 2008 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, Peck collected 10 top-five finishes, including three victories. He was a member of the victorious 2008 Wyndham Cup West Team and Junior Ryder Cup team.
Peck graduated from Texas A&M University this past May with impressive accolades. Peck was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and finished in the top-20 at the 2010 NCAA Championship. He finished third at the 2011 NCAA Finals, the highest of any Aggie at the event in school history. The following year his teammates voted him the team’s Most Valuable Player.
PGA TOUR
Jordan Spieth held off David Hearn and Zach Johnson in a 5-hole playoff at the John Deere Classic
to become the youngest player to win on the PGA TOUR since 1931. Spieth holed a 45-foot bunker shot on his final hole of regulation to finish at 6-under-par 65 with a tournament total 19-under-par 265. This was Spieth’s first career victory on TOUR
after five top-10 finishes this season.
The Dallas native began his junior career with a bang, winning his first AJGA tournament. Spieth’s win at the 2007 Junior All-Star at Walnut Creek would be the first of five during his junior career. Spieth’s career spanned from 2007 to 2011, where he collected 17 top-five finishes. Alongside tournament titles, Spieth was named a three-time Rolex Junior All-American. In 2009, Spieth became the Rolex Junior Player of the Year.
Spieth received his first amateur exemption in 2010 for the HP Byron Nelson Classic making him the first player since 1995 to receive an amateur exemption into the event. Spieth finished his first PGA TOUR start in the top-20 at T16.
Spieth capped off his impressive junior career with a win the 2011 US Junior Amateur Championship, making him the only other player to win two national junior-amateurs besides Tiger Woods.
Spieth played his college career at the University of Texas where in his first season with the Longhorns, he helped them win the 2012 NCAA Men’s Division I Golf National Championship. After the season, Spieth was named a finalist for the 2012 Ben Hogan Award alongside Patrick Rodgers.
