2015 Winter/Spring Preview: Easter weekend

For junior golfers playing a national competition schedule, holidays are spent on the golf course. The AJGA hosts four of the most competitive events over Easter weekend, April 2-5, from Palm Harbor, Florida, to Mesa, Arizona. Each tournament offers a special opportunity for AJGA members – and provides a unique experience for families who spend so many holidays on the road.

Junior All-Star at Château Élan
A familiar host, Château Élan Resort will host an Easter event for the sixth consecutive year. The event will be played on the Château Course, one of two 18-hole courses on the resort’s property, located just a few steps from the front door of AJGA National Headquarters in Braselton, Georgia. The Junior All-Star at Château Élan’s unique location allows competitors the chance to meet AJGA staff members that don’t normally attend events. One of only four Junior All-Star Series events to have a cut, it provides younger players a great opportunity to test their skills against a 132-player field filled with talent.

TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Justin Rose
As the largest event of the year, at least in terms of field size, a talented 204-player field will travel to the most-visited course in AJGA history, Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. The second of three events that will be held at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in 2015, the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Justin Rose will be the 34th AJGA event played at the storied club. The Boys Division will play the Copperhead Course, home of the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship, while the Girls Division will compete on the equally-challenging North Course. PGA TOUR player Justin Rose will serve as a first-time host for the event.

AJGA Junior at Horseshoe Bay
A new addition to the Easter weekend lineup, the AJGA Junior at Horseshoe Bay will take 132 players to the Apple Rock Course at Horseshoe Bay Resort. This will be the sixth AJGA event held at the Texas resort, but the first time on the Apple Rock Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the Apple Rock Course was built in 1986, and opened to such great reception as being named “Best New Resort Course” by Golf Digest. The par-72 course will offer golfers great views of nearby Lake Lyndon B. Johnson with many of the drastic elevation changes from hole to hole.

Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club
Continuing a great AJGA Easter weekend tradition, Longbow Golf Club will host the Phoenix-area event for the 12th time. Designed in part to celebrate the life of LPGA Tour player and AJGA alum Heather Farr, this tournament has become a very popular event on the schedule. One of the biggest draws for players is the possibility of adding their name to an impressive list of past champions. Players like Paula Creamer (twice), Hunter Mahan and Inbee Park, among other notable players, have all lifted the trophy during their junior golf careers.

Applications for all Easter weekend events will be open by the end of January 2015.
