Three things to watch for Sunday at Thunderbird

  • Six international players shot par or better in the first round. In the Boys Division, they were Viktor Hovland of Norway (67), Koichiro Ishika of Japan (70), Herik Machado of Brazil (70), and Kristoffer Reitan of Norway (72). In the Girls Division, they were Agathe Laisne of France (69) and Himawari Ogura of Japan (72).

  • Sundown ushers in one of the year's most anticipated social activities, the Dry Heave. The contest pits players beneath a floodlight with a short wedge shot over water in which Jordan Spieth once referred to as, "one of the most nervracking shots I've ever hit."

  • Both of the No. 1 players in the Polo Golf Rankings are within striking distance. Sam Burns is two back of the lead, while Andrea Lee is four back after a first round even-par 72.
