The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, North Carolina, is set to host AJGA for the first time since the 2005 Golf Pride Junior Classic. The Rolex Girls Junior Championship is a 72-hole girls-only stroke-play Invitational that features 49 AJGA champions and 22 current Rolex Junior All-Americans.

Juniors will once again compete on the par-72 Dogwood Course, which has hosted seven North Carolinas Amateurs, six Southern Amateurs, the PGA TOUR World Match Play Championship, 1980 U.S. Amateur Championship and the 2010 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.

The Dogwood Course opened in 1963 and was designed by Ellis Maples and William Byrd. In 1999, Arthur Hills renovated the course which included a rebuilding of the greens, tees and bunkers. In 2012 the course was switched over to Bermuda grass, which holds up better during hot Carolina summers.

The challenging course has an impressive history including a course-record 9-under-par 63 from Webb Simpson. The former Rolex Junior Player of the Year also won a 72-hole event with a 16-under-par tournament total 272. Sam Saunders and Tom Glissmeyer hold the competitive course record of 9-under-par 63.

Director of Golf at The Country Club of North Carolina Jeff Dotson said the course and its members enjoy giving back to junior golf.

“Our members thoroughly enjoy coming out to support the juniors and watch them play at such a high level,” Dotson said. “We have prepared the course to get it into great shape, recruited volunteers and made sure the community is aware of the Rolex Girls Junior Championship.”

The official tournament practice round begins Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun and 1:30 p.m. Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament.
