Community involvement and player hospitality have been among the tournament committee’s top priorities at the Exide Technologies Junior Open presented by Mizuno. The 2012 tournament at The Country Club of the South built upon this tradition, and the AJGA has recognized the committee's efforts by naming the event its Open Tournament of the Year.

“Because of the outstanding commitment made by our title sponsor, Exide Technologies, and tremendous support from the membership, we have continued to conduct a top quality tournament,” said Tournament Chairman Chuck Strong. “Members and sponsors want to get involved because they see what the AJGA is about, an organization that not only focuses on improving and providing playing opportunities for junior golf, but building character in these young men and women.”

The Country Club of the South membership has embraced the tournament year after year, championing the event by volunteering, securing sponsors and creating a first-class tournament experience for players and parents. Their efforts were recognized in 2011 with the Hospitality Award and the tournament continued its success in 2012 by generating additional revenue through hole sponsors, auctions and other fundraising activities.

The tournament has also made an impact within the membership by increasing participation in the junior golf program.

“The Club has expanded its junior program as a direct influence of the success of the AJGA tournament,” Strong said. “Three years ago we had 12 kids involved and this year we had 80. The increase has to do with the exposure parents received at the tournament and the excitement over junior golf.”

The Exide Technologies Junior Open presented by Mizuno has resulted in an economic impact of more than $270,000 to the community since 2010. The three Junior-Am fundraising events have raised $49,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. During the tournament, head pros at The Country Club of the South conducted interactive clinics with Brothers and Sisters on the driving range. Atlanta Junior Golf also partnered with the tournament in 2012 and held a skills competition for AJG members.

The tournament returns to the AJGA schedule in 2013 and will be played at The Country Club of the South, April 19-21.
