Weekend wrap-up (April 21)

LPGA Tour
Lizette Salas carded a final-round 63, finishing second to Suzann Peterson at the LPGA Lotte Championship following a one-hole playoff. Salas, who has four top-10 finishes in seven starts this year, had a final round highlighted by seven birdies and an eagle. The runner-up showing helped her move to No. 22 in the Rolex World Rankings.

A 2006 Rolex Junior All-American, Salas recorded nine AJGA top-10 finishes. During her junior career, Salas found success at the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior, finishing second in 2006 and third in 2007. Salas played college golf at the University of Southern California where she was a part of the 2008 NCAA title team.

PGA Tour
At the RBC Heritage, Webb Simpson posted his third top-10 finish of the season, finishing second after falling to Graeme McDowell in a sudden-death playoff.

Before turning professional in 2008, Simpson recorded 15 top-five finishes in AJGA competition. Simpson’s AJGA career was highlighted by a win at the 2001 Rolex Tournament of Champions and three appearances on the Wyndham Cup East Team. A four-time Rolex Junior All-American, Simpson continued his amateur career at Wake Forest University.

Jordan Spieth took home his third top-10 finish of the season at the RBC Heritage, finishing tied for ninth with a tournament total 3-under-par. Spieth’s showing was highlighted by rounds of 2-under-par 69 in the second and third rounds.

Spieth, the 2009 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, recorded five AJGA victories and won the 2009 and 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Spieth went on to play college golf at the University of Texas where he was an integral part of the Longhorns’ 2012 NCAA National Championship team, winning three events and leading the team in scoring average.
