Honoring Heather Farr

The AJGA recognizes Heather Farr as one of most decorated players in the organization’s history. Next week, Arizona will honor the late Farr as the newest inductee into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m., at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A native of Phoenix, Farr was a two-time Rolex Junior Player of the Year and champion of both the Rolex Tournament of Champions and Polo Golf Junior Classic. She continued her career at Arizona State where she was a two-time All-American. At the age of 20, Farr qualified for the LPGA Tour, becoming the youngest to do so at the time.  Four years later, Farr was diagnosed with breast cancer, a battle she fought for four and a half years before her death on November 20, 1993.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Farr’s passing and the inception of the Heather Farr Memorial ACE Grant. Junior golf was a significant part of Farr’s life. Her family honors her legacy with the Heather Farr Memorial ACE Grant to help juniors continue to pursue a college golf scholarship, a dream that was shared by Farr.
