The David Toms Foundation Shreveport Junior was named the “Sports Event of the Year” by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. The event, which will return to Louisiana in July, earned the 2013 P.R.I.D.E. Award in the Tourism and Sports Partner Awards category.

“We are honored to receive this award and we would like to thank the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission for all their support,” said Darren Nelson, AJGA senior regional director, South Central. “This event was successful because of the tremendous support and dedication of the community.

In its second year on the AJGA schedule, the David Toms Foundation Shreveport Junior will be conducted again at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, La., July 22-26. The 54-hole stroke play event will feature 96 of the nation’s top male and female junior golfers ages 12-18.

In 2012, Shreveport native and LSU commit Eric Ricard won the inaugural event by six strokes, finishing with a 7-under-par 209. In the Girls Division, Elizabeth Doty of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., earned her first career AJGA win with a 1-over-par 217.
