Emma Talley wins U.S. Women's Amateur

Talley following her win at the 2011 Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior

Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., won the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship on Sunday, defeating Yueer Cindy Feng of Orlando, Fla., 2-and-1.

Talley, a four-time Rolex Junior All-American, amassed 10 AJGA victories in her successful junior career, tying her for ninth on the all-time list for most career individual wins in the AJGA Girls Record Book.

At the 2010 AJGA Huntsville Junior presented by The Huntsville Athletic Club, Talley recorded rounds of 67-66-65 to finish with a tournament total 15-under-par 198. Her 15-under-par 198 tied her for second on the lowest girls’ 54-hole total, and her 22-stroke victory broke the record for the largest margin of victory, breaking the old record of an 18 shot margin.

Winning four tournaments in a row in 2011, Talley finds herself atop the most consecutive wins column in the AJGA Girls Record Book. The summer of 2011 started with a win at the AJGA Junior at Quad Cities, an event that Talley had won in 2009, but finished runner-up at in 2010.

Talley’s second win of the year came in her home state of Kentucky at the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior, the second time in as many years that she won the event.

The AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Reliant Bank was No. 3 in a summer of championships for Talley. Talley shot three even-par 72 rounds to take home first prize by a three-stroke margin.

To complete her record-breaking streak, Talley shot a tournament total 4-under-par 212 to go wire-to-wire to win the 2011 AJGA Girls Championship.

Talley will begin her sophomore year at the University of Alabama this fall. During her freshman campaign, her 73.00 scoring average ranked second on the team and she received second-team All-America honors. The Crimson Tide begin their 2013-2014 schedule the second weekend in September at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview in Tulsa, Okla.
