Vanderbilt All-American Hunter Stewart captured the 54th Northeast Amateur Invitational at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island. Tied with Baylor All-American Kyle Jones at the start of the final round, Stewart tallied five birdies to finish 10-under-par 266, surpassing Jones by four strokes.

"I won the Players (Amateur) a couple years ago. I've won a couple big college events, but this is right there at the top with them," he said in an article with his home state paper Kentucky.com . "It’s definitely one of the majors of amateur golf. It's a privilege to win this event. It's a great honor.''

The recent graduate of Vanderbilt has an impressive resume, which includes a third-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships and a win at the Palmer Cup as a member of Team USA. With his win at the Northeast Amateur, Stewart is one step closer to playing in the Walker Cup.

Rolex Junior All-American William Gordon won the Greystone Invitational, his first amateur victory, at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Hoover, Alabama. Eight current or former AJGA players finished in the top 10, with Gordon taking the top honors at 13-under-par 275. The Davison, North Carolina, native finished seven strokes ahead of Anthony Quayle and Robby Prater at Greystone’s Founder’s Course. Gordon will continue his golf career at Vanderbilt University in the fall.

Several AJGA alumni competed in the Symetra Tour’s Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Michigan, with University of California player Daniela Holmqvist being crowned the champion after she shot a 10-under-par 206. Kelowna, British Columbia, native Samantha Richdale tallied a 9-under-par 207 to come in second, falling one stroke behind Holmqvist. Teen phenom Brooke Henderson carded an 8-under-par 208 to finish in third.

"It was fun," Henderson said when speaking to SPORTSNET Canada . "There were some good holes and some bad holes but overall I was hitting the ball well. I missed a couple of putts the past two days but I made up for it a little bit today."

On the PGA TOUR, Bubba Watson prevailed over Paul Casey on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to capture his ninth TOUR victory at the Travelers Championship. During his AJGA career, Watson was a three-time Rolex Junior All-American and competed on two Wyndham Cup teams.

One day after she handed trophies to the champions of the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational , Stacy Lewis competed in the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. A year after winning the tournament – held 25 miles from her alma mater, the University of Arkansas – Lewis used a second-round 65 to help her finish tied for third.
