The first round of the Rolex Girls Junior Championship begins Tuesday at The Country Club of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Here are Three Things to know about June 14's first round.
2014 Champ Returns
Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, California, returns to The Country Club of Rochester to defend her 2014 Rolex Girls Junior Championship title. She won her first AJGA invitational wire-to-wire as one of the youngest players in the field. This year’s youngest player is Cindy Kou of Windermere, Florida, who has recorded two victories and three top-five AJGA finishes at age 12.
Rolex Junior All-Americans
The 72-player field features 17 Rolex Junior All-Americans. The past 10 Rolex Girls Junior Championship winners went on to finish as first-team Rolex Junior All-Americans including Ariya Jutanugarn who won the Rolex Girls Junior Championship in back-to-back years (2011, 2012) and recently won three straight LPGA Tour events.
New Faces
Fifty-two girls will make their Rolex Girls Junior Championship debut this week. Despite the younger crowd, 32 players, or nearly half the field, have committed to play college golf.
