Foster’s bogey-free round gives her victory in Girls Division at Innisbrook’s North Course
PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Shun Yat Hak of Lake Mary, Fla., fired a 3-under-par 68 in the final round for a 1-over-par 214 tournament total to win the Boys Division at the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Sean O'Hair. Christina Foster of Concord, Ontario, finished at 1-over-par 211 to win the Girls Division.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Sean O'Hair was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. The 210-player field featured juniors from 28 states, and eight foreign countries. The Boys Division played the par-71 Copperhead Course at 7,277 yards, while the Girls Division was at the par-70 North Course at 5,805 yards.
Hak, a Hong Kong native, who won this event in 2009, started the day three shots back from the lead, but quickly surged up the leaderboard by birding No. 1. Hak's three birdies on the front nine at Nos. 1, 4 and 6, were the key to his Easter Sunday victory.
“I stayed very patient this week and today my putter gave me the great start I had with birdies on Nos. 1, 4 and 6,” Hak said. “It feels like home at Innisbrook every time I play here, I love this course.”
Florida natives Owen Curry of Longwood and Conor Richardson of West Palm Beach tied for second place at 4-over-par 217. Chase Koepka of West Palm Beach, Fla., Sean Kelly of Staten Island, N.Y., and Rohan Ramnath of Weston, Fla., rounded out the top boys with scores of 5-over-par 218.
In the Girls Division, Foster stayed consistent once again by matching her Saturday 1-under-par 69 score in the final round. Foster credited her coach on helping her win her second career AJGA event.
“I just kept playing my game and focused on one shot at a time,” Foster said. “I have been working so hard lately with my coach and it feels amazing to have your hard work pay off.”
Victoria Tanco of Bradenton, Fla., finished in second place with a 2-over-par 212 tournament total. Jaye Marie Green of Boca Raton, Fla., shot the low final-round score for the girls with a 2-under-par 68 to take third place with a tournament total of 3-over-par 213.
