Yumar wins by five strokes at the W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at Rush Creek
Danielson shoots a 2-under-par 70 to earn the victory at Rush Creek Golf Club

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - Juan Yumar of Miami, Fla., shot a 6-under-par 66 to get his first AJGA victory at the W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at Rush Creek. In the Girls Division, Casey Danielson of Osceola, Wis., earned the win at Rush Creek Golf Club, after carding a tournament total of 2-under-par 214.

The W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at Rush Creek was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn. The tournament field included 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18 from 17 states and three countries including Brazil, Ecuador, and Thailand. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 7,041 yards, while the Girls Division played at 6,031 yards.

Yumar recorded seven birdies and one bogey on the round. This is only Yumar's second AJGA event of his career. This win in America boosts confidence for the Venezuelan-born golfer.

“This is my first win on American soil which is very important to me,” Yumar said. “This is the biggest event I've won, and from here I now know that I can compete in these events”.

Yumar finished the tournament at 10-under-par 206. The Miami, Fla. native birdied the first four holes on his back nine to set him on his path for victory.

“I made four birdies in a row and I realized that I had a really good chance at winning,” Yumar said.

Zecheng Dou of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. finished in second place with a 5-under-par 211. In third place was Dominic Kieffer of Byron, Minn., who finished the tournament at 2-under-par 214. Max Donohue of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jon DuToit of Chanhassen, Minn., and Aaron Wong of Chandler, Ariz., all tied for fifth with a 1-under-par 215.

In the Girls Division, Danielson won by three strokes because of her final round 2-under-par 70. Last year, the Osceola, WI., native finished second at the W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at Rush Creek. Danielson put the “blinders” on while playing in the final group, which helped obtain the victory.

“Since I was playing with two really good girls, I just tried to play my game and not think about what they were at,” Danielson said.

Danielson has five top-10 finishes in her AJGA career, but just like Yumar this is her first victory. The Class of 2013 graduate is currently ranked No. 38 in the Polo Junior Golf Rankings and was just added to the Wyndham Cup roster for the East team. Danielson's chip-in birdie on No. 11 was the difference maker for the round.

“On No. 11, I got the chip-in and that's what got me going,” Danielson said. “That helped me because it got me out of a funk that I was in”.

Jacqueline Chulya of Bangkok, Thailand and Catherina Li of Kent, Wash., tied for second at 1-under-par 217. Chulya tied Danielson on the day with the low girl's final round at a 2-under-par 70.
