AJGA Announces 2007 Schedule
Another Year of Great Events Awaits AJGA Juniors

By Stacey Whyte

As the calendar moved into 2007, so did the American Junior Golf Association. With more than 70 events on the schedule, there are plenty of venues and events to look forward to. The season kicks off over Easter Weekend with four events. The Medicus Preseason Junior at Tapatio Springs in Boerne, Texas, will join the three traditional AJGA Easter Weekend events. The Heather Farr Classic in Mesa, Ariz., the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., and the PING Junior at The Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas, will all be a great start to the 2007 season.

The 2007 schedule includes seven Medicus Preseason Junior Series events, nine Junior All-Star Series events and 10 Invitationals.

Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor course will once again host the Thunderbird International Junior.

The Medicus Preseason Junior series makes up a significant portion of the spring schedule giving first-time members and juniors who have not yet participated in AJGA events an opportunity to play early in the season. Seven Medicus Preseason Series events will be conducted in April and May, beginning with an Easter Weekend tournament in Boerne, Texas. The AJGA will visit several new areas for the Medicus Preseason Series including Celebration, Fla., Rochester, N.Y., Frankfort, Ill., and Albuquerque, N.M.

The summer season kicks off with the Thunderbird International Junior, once again bringing the world's top junior golfers to Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Several Invitationals have found new homes this season. The Rolex Girls Junior Championship moves to Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colo., site of the 2006 Rolex Tournament of Champions. The 2007 edition of the Rolex Tournament of Champions will be held at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The Junior All-Star Series, which is designed for boys and girls ages 12-15, provides the opportunity to develop their skill and earn entry into Open tournaments. The series will make familiar stops in Camp Lejeune, N.C., State College, Pa., and Long Grove, Iowa, and will also be headed to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Richmond, Va., among others.

Moon Valley Golf Club will host the PING Phoenix Junior after playing host in 2004.

Open tournaments will travel to several new venues in 2007. These include Magnolia Landing Golf Club in Estero, Fla., Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Hawthorn Woods Country Club in Hawthorn, Ill., Indian Hills Country Club in Shawnee Mission, Kan., Red Tail Golf Club in Avon, Ohio, Pensacola Country Club in Pensacola, Fla., Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead, Mass., The Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, National Golf Club in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., Southern Oaks Country Club in Burleson, Texas, and The Woodmere Club in Woodmere, N.Y. The AJGA will also make return trips to Avila Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla., San Antonio Country Club in San Antonio, and Moon Valley Golf Club in Phoenix.

Accompanying more than 44 Open tournaments will be an 18-hole Srixon Qualifier. Typically held the day prior to the Open tournament, the Srixon Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to "play their way in" to an AJGA Open tournament or earn a tournament exemption for a future event.
