Hot Springs Ashworth Junior Event Open for Girls

Applications become available Feb. 3

The Ashworth Junior Series, traditionally a boys-only series, will open the Ashworth Junior at Hot Springs to girls.

The event, scheduled for April 16-18, 2004 in Hot Springs, Ark., must have a minimum of 15 girls sign up by March 8 in order to field a Girls Division. If the rest of the tournament field does not fill with boys there is a possibility of more playing opportunities for girls.

"The girls will not be confirmed into the field until at least 15 girls applications have been received,” said Jenae Jenkins, AJGA manager of player services. “If 15 applications for the event are not received, the AJGA will not be able to conduct a Girls Division at the Ashworth Junior at Hot Springs.”

The Ashworth Junior Series is designed specifically for first-time AJGA members or those members who have not yet participated in an AJGA Open event, AJGA Invitational or Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series event in the current calendar year and/or the previous calendar year.

Champion of the Girls Division at the Ashworth Junior at Hot Springs will receive two Tournament Exemptions, while the top 3 will receive one Tournament Exemption. No Performance Stars will be awarded.

For more information, please contact Jenae Jenkins in the Player Services Department at (877) 373-2542 or at jjenkins@ajga.org.
