A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words
Photos never before seen - and maybe never to be seen again!
By John Egnot
Manager of Media Relations

As a member of the AJGA Communications Department, one of the main tasks of my job, as well as the job of others within the department and our summer communications interns, is to record the goings-on at AJGA events through photography. Or, as a truly artistic individual might say, our job is to “capture the very essence of junior golf through the art of seeking the personification of an event via photographic images.”

Enough with the artsy stuff.

You’ve seen us all over the place at AJGA events. Remember the guy who suddenly walks to the front of the room during a Players Meeting to temporarily blind half the room with the flashbulb? That was a member of our Communications Department.

Bewildered staffers watch as former tournament director, now University of Georgia Assistant Men's Golf Coach Ryan Hybl celebrates the hoisting of a golf bag.
Remember the girl who walks around on the fringes of greens to get in position for the next player to putt? Yeah, that was one of us, too. (I often wonder what some people in the gallery think when this happens.)

Or, how about the guy who rolls up to the tee in his golf cart armed with a Canon Digital Rebel, a smaller pocket-sized digital camera, a video camera and a tripod? Again, member of the Communications Department.

Or what about my personal favorite? I often wonder what players, parents and spectators think when one of us stands in a buffet line or at a table at a cookout and snaps photos of people gathering food and eating. Believe it or not, while some of you may think it is a little strange, pictures like that are critical in establishing and maintaining relationships with our sponsors and other supporters.

Trust us…our sponsors love to see juniors digging in and having fun at our events. That’s why we dodge around tables and, from time to time, get in someone’s mush to get that perfect candid shot.

Now, all of these photos we take are used in a multitude of ways. From tournament programs to Web site images to Flash presentations such as the ones you’ll see at the Polo Golf Junior Classic, every picture we take is fair game to be used in something.

And, while we are out there taking action photography, snapping cool pictures of course scenery and capturing the fun and games at tournament cookouts, we are just a bunch of 20-somethings (for the most part) who are out there having some fun with an awesome piece of equipment.

As a result, like true shutterbugs, we get a little goofy with some of the pictures we take. Some members of the Communications Department (especially Dave Buer), tend to imagine themselves on a nature safari and take pictures of various species of wildlife. Others seem to have the ability to always have the camera at hand at the most opportune times when a staff member (or group of staff members) is doing something a little out of the ordinary.

The following are some examples of the best photos of 2005 that you probably have never seen before. In fact, they are ones that you will probably never see again.
