In
its May 2005 issue, Golf Digest came out with its rankings
of the world’s greatest golf courses, and the AJGA is
very well represented. Presented by Rolex, the lists include
14 courses on this year’s schedule.
Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., host of the Fidelity
Investments Junior Shootout at Rich Harvest, received the highest
accolades in this year’s rankings. The facility, which
will host the AJGA for the second time in 2005, came in 45th
among America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses. Additionally,
the course was named the fifth best course in the state of Illinois.
Rich Harvest Farms is slated to host the 2009 Solheim Cup.
Long Cove Club, host of the 2005 Rolex Tournament of Champions,
was the other course to make America’s 100 Greatest list,
coming in at No. 71. Located on Hilton Head Island, S.C., Long
Cove has played host to major AJGA tournaments in the past,
including the 1997 Rolex Tournament of Champions and the 1999
Canon Cup. The club was named the second best course in South
Carolina, outranking all of the golf courses on the state’s
famous “Grand Strand.”
Two AJGA venues highlight America’s 100 Greatest Public
Courses, including Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course.
Located in Sea Island, Ga., the host of the Polo Golf Junior
Classic is ranked 22nd in this year’s rankings. The Seaside
Course is also rated No. 6 in the state of Georgia.

Riverside, also made an appearance on multiple lists. This jewel
that sits across the Mississippi River from New Orleans was
rated the fourth best new upscale course in the U.S. as well

Two more AJGA courses made an appearance on the Best New Courses
in the U.S. and Canada list. The Rawls Course at Texas Tech
University in Lubbock, Texas, host of the Randy Smith Classic
presented by Myco Industries, Inc., was rated second on the
list and was also named the 12th best course in the Lone-Star
state.
The Beman Course at Cannon Ridge Golf Course in Fredericksburg,
Va., was ranked the third best new course in the U.S. and Canada.
