Interns Set for Summer of 2006
Forty-four new faces coming to a city near you!

By John Egnot

As the Summer of 2006 rolls around, another crop of summer interns is getting set to hit the road to conduct more than 50 of the AJGA’s events. This year, 44 interns will descend upon Braselton, Ga., beginning May 20 for more than a week of rigorous training that will prepare them for the task ahead.

The communications and tournament operations interns will learn everything there is to know about running a golf tournament. The interns will be taught how to mark golf courses, set up lightning-detection systems, use tournament administrative software, write press releases, produce results and drive the AJGA vans, and these are only a few of the items on the busy agenda.

For the first time in 2006, there will be six intern teams traveling across the country from site to site. Teams will also consist of seven interns instead of six, which was the case in previous years.

With each team running anywhere from eight to 12 events, you can imagine how many miles the interns will be logging in 2006. Team 4, which begins their summer at the Nike Golf Junior at Colonial presented by Mississippi Farm Bureau in Jackson, Miss., will be taking home the hardware for the longest trip of 2006. After running The Memorial Junior Championship in Columbus, Ohio, July 31-Aug. 3, the team will head west in a big way, traveling 2,459 miles to Pleasanton, Calif., for the Fidelity Investments Junior Open.
