Vongvanij,
Amira Fire 63s While Capturing AJGA Titles
Arnond Vongvanij of Bradenton, Fla., and Louis Amira of Valencia,
Calif., each shot 63s while claiming the Ringgold Telephone
Company Junior Classic and the Nike Golf Junior at Las Cruces,
respectively.
Vongvanij's second-round 7-under-par 63 vaulted him to the top
of the leaderboard in Ringgold. Vongvanij would hold off Hudson
Swafford in a sudden-death playoff to earn his first victory
of the season. Amira's second-round 9-under-par 63 was the catalyst
for an 8-shot victory in Las Cruces. The scores matched the
second-best score ever recorded in the AJGA Boys Division.
Creamer Wins First LPGA Tour Event
One week before her high school graduation, Paula Creamer captured
her first LPGA victory at the Sybase Classic presented by Lincoln
Mercury. Creamer drained a 17-foot birdie putt on No. 18 at
the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., to secure the
victory.
Creamer’s rounds of 69-68-71-70—278 were enough
to outlast Jeong Jang and Gloria Park who finished tied for
second. Creamer, the 2003 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, became
the second-youngest first-time winner on the LPGA Tour.
Pressel Finishes Strong at LPGA Tour Stop
First-team Rolex Junior All-American Morgan Pressel of Boca
Raton, Fla., finished tied for 23rd at the LPGA's Chick-Fil-A
Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez held in suburban
Atlanta. The event marked her third appearance on the LPGA Tour
in 2005 after competing and making the cut at the Kraft Nabisco
Championship and the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill. |
