Thirty-seven
summer interns get set for the ride of their lives |

Back in February, more than 70 applicants from every conceivable
corner of the country descended upon the AJGA’s national
headquarters in beautiful (yet now, very humid) Braselton, Ga.,
for intern recruiting weekend, hoping to capture a spot for
what will turn out to be a very vigorous yet rewarding summer
internship with what is, quite possibly, the greatest show on
wheels (or, at least in a big conversion van with a trailer
attached).
Now,
after nearly three weeks of training in late May back in Braselton,
37 of these candidates are currently running AJGA events across
the United States.
Training, which if you ask the interns when you see them, was
very thorough and intricate, more so than ever before. This
year’s crew arrived between seven and 10 days before they
were to actually head on the road. Everything that you might
think would go into running a golf tournament was covered, from
entering scores into a computer to setting up weather-detection
to tying mascots on the fronts of the team vans (keep an eye
out for these this summer because they’re pretty cool).
After going through some more Power Point presentations, demonstrations,
speeches and a mock golf tournament (and a bunch of free meals
from some of Braselton’s finest establishments), the summer
interns had formally been introduced to the role of “road
warrior.”
With the turn of a key and the rumble of a Ford conversion van
fueled by good old-fashioned diesel, Intern Team 2 took off
in the van better known as “Clifford” or “Cliffy”
or “Big Red,” basically whatever pops into your
head at the time. The team was headed for Kansas, and soon,
they learn that there truly is no place like home, with home
being the van and trailer.
The fun has truly begun for these crews. Long road trips, unique
restaurants, the never-ending search for diesel fuel, and of
course, the chance to see some of the greatest golf facilities
in the world.
Now, here is your chance to meet the summer crew of 2005! |
