AJGA Returns to Boyne Highlands

Event replaces Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior

For the fourth consecutive year, the AJGA will make a stop at Northern Michigan’s Boyne Highlands Resort.

Boyne Highlands ResortLocated in Harbor Springs, Boyne Highlands’ Heather Course served as the home for the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, the AJGA went back to Boyne Highlands for the inaugural AJGA Boyne Highlands Junior.

This year’s AJGA Boyne Highlands Junior will feature 144 boys and girls ages 12-18 in 54 holes of stroke play competition on Boyne Highlands’ Moor Course. The event will be held July 26 – 29 with a qualifier being held Monday, July 26.

The AJGA Boyne Highlands Junior is replacing the Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior. Applications that have already been received for the Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior will automatically be transferred to the AJGA Boyne Highlands Junior. Juniors may withdraw from the tournament before the deadline (June 22, 2004) without penalty.

“It is unfortunate to make a change like this during the season but is was a logistical circumstance that was beyond our control that led to this decision,” said AJGA Vice President of Operations Bobby Powell.

“Boyne Highlands is a great venue. The resort and golf course staff has always been great to us and we really look forward to going back there.”

Amanda Blumenherst of Scottsdale, Ariz., had a record-setting week at the 2003 AJGA Boyne Highlands Junior. She set the women’s course competitive record with her second-round 65 and tied the AJGA Girls Division record for largest winning margin with her 16-stroke victory.

Frank Alafoginis of Potomac, Md., picked up his first AJGA win as be finished with a two-stroke win in the rain-shortened tournament.
