Cory Whitsett of Houston, took home his first USGA title last week at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Whitsett, a 2006 Rolex Junior All-American, defeated Anthony Paolucci 8 and 7. His birdies on 7 and 9 during the morning of the 36-hole marathon gave Whitsett the advantage he needed and allowed him to remain in control. Whitsett is the second southpaw to ever win the event.

Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., defeated Ayaka Kaneko during the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, 4 and 3. The girls remained all square through the first 18 holes, but Park went 1-up after the 19th hole and never let the lead slip. At 14, Park is the fourth-youngest champion of this event.
