AJGA Members Take U.S. Junior Amateur Titles
Philip Francis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and
Jenny Shin of Torrance, Calif., took home top honors at the
U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior respectively,
July 22.
Francis, the top-ranked player in the AJGA Boys Rankings
and winner of four AJGA tournaments in 2006, defeated Richard
Lee of Chandler, Ariz., 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final.
Shin, 13, who tied for fourth at the Hanmi Bank Junior Open
last month, defeated Vicki Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., on the
first hole of sudden death, the 37th hole of the day.
Stanley Shines at Southern Amateur
First-team Rolex Junior All-American and Clemson University-bound
Kyle Stanley of Gig Harbor, Wash., won the 100th annual Southern
Amateur at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham,
Ala., July 22. Stanley fired rounds of 67-70-67-71—275
for a 9-under-par total.
With the win, Stanley received an invitation
to play in the PGA TOUR’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill
in Orlando, Fla., next year. Stanley has enjoyed much success
at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, winning
the 2005 HP Boys Junior Championship with a four-day score
of 12-under-par. He followed that up with a third-place showing
at in the same event last month. |
