Since its inception in 2002, the AJGA Link has brought to
you story after story on who’s who in junior golf. From
recaps on today’s best players to updates on juniors
who have moved on to collegiate and professional levels of
play, we have shared with you the future of the game of golf.
While this focus is one we are proud to share, there is another
side of the game that we feel needs to be emphasized - its
past.
As talented juniors continue to step up to the tee and blow
minds with their amazing golf skills, the rich history that
the game of golf possesses is sometimes overshadowed by the
accomplishments of today. It is this history, along with those
people who have been instrumental in shaping golf into the
game we now know, to which we wish to pay tribute.
Beginning this issue, a new column will become a regular feature
in the AJGA Link. Established with the goal of educating juniors,
their families and the public on the foundations of the game,
this column will highlight the history of golf- the details
of its beginnings, the people of the past who have influenced
its present and the sacrifices others have made to give juniors
the opportunities they have today.
Partnering with the World Golf Hall of Fame in this endeavor,
the American Junior Golf Association is excited to include
this feature in our newsletter. We hope you enjoy this column
as we learn together about the history of the game we all
love so much.
Check out the first installment: Bobby
Jones.
