While most players are excited for their chance to tee it up on the par-3 17th on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, there are other special touches that will go along with the event. Each group will have a standard bearer following their group all three tournament rounds. Additionally, players and their families will also have a chance to visit the World Golf Hall of Fame and take a tour of PGA TOUR Productions.
Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., currently ranked No. 1 in the Polo Golf Rankings, will headline the field. He hopes to earn his second AJGA Invitational victory after his win at the FootJoy Boys Invitational in June. Uihlein, the 2005 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, finished fourth at the two other Invitational tournaments he participated in this year – the Thunderbird International Junior and the Rolex Tournament of Champions. The three-time Rolex Junior All-American will have to hold off the competition before claiming top honors.
Wesley Graham of Port Orange, Fla., will be leading the charge in overtaking Uihlein’s No. 1 ranking. Currently ranked No. 2, Graham has finished second twice in 2007 including at the HP Boys Championship in July. He is looking for his first victory of the 2007 season after being victorious at the Burgett H. Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic in 2006.

Cory Whitsett (3) of Houston, Morgan Hoffmann (5) of Saddlebrook, N.J., Bud Cauley (6) of Jacksonville, Fla., Andrew Yun (8) of Tacoma, Wash., and David Sanders (10) of Mount Laurel, N.J. will all be joined by the rest of the top-notch field racing after Uihlein and Graham.
Whitsett was recently victorious at the U.S. Junior Amateur, where he became only the fifth 15-year-old to earn this title in 59 years. Hoffmann earned top honors at the prestigious Polo Golf Junior Classic over Thanksgiving last year. Cauley finished second at the Thunderbird International Junior earlier this year and is looking to take home his fourth AJGA victory. Yun is search of his third Invitational victory after claiming top honors in 2006 at the FootJoy Boys Invitational and The PING Invitational. Strong showings in 2007 launched Sanders to his high ranking. A win at the Aldila Junior Classic and a second-place finish at the FootJoy Boys Invitational highlight Sanders junior golf resume.
In addition to the top junior golfers from the United States, 13 foreign countries will compete in The Junior PLAYERS Championship. Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and Taiwan will all have at least one junior golfer participating.
By this association with the PGA TOUR, the event is sure to be a success for everyone who is in attendance. |
