Pressel wins U.S. Women's Amateur

Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., continued her incredible run by winning the U.S. Women's Amateur, held Aug. 1-7 in Roswell, Ga. Pressel defeated 21-year-old Maru Martinez of Venezuela 9 and 8 in the 36-hole match play finale. The victory comes after Pressel's win at the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, in which she wrapped up the "Career AJGA Slam".

Pressel's road to the championship included victories over five current AJGA players, including Sooji Cho, Mina Harigae, Jane Rah, Jennie Lee and Angela Park.

Final PING Junior Solheim Cup rankings released

The 2005 PING Junior Solheim Cup rankings have been finalized and we now await the naming of the team, which is expected in the coming weeks, once the two captain's picks are determined.

Leading the way for the USA team are Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., Esther Choe of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kimberly Donovan of Hopkinton, Mass.

Pressel earned the top spot on the strength of a remarkable run, which included her recent victory at the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship. With the win, Pressel became the first player to win the "Career AJGA Slam."

Choe established herself with two victories this season, including the Rolex Tournament of Champions. Donovan also has a pair of national victories this year, finishing first at the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan and the Scott Robertson Memorial.

The top-10 point earners are guaranteed an invitation to play in the team match play event, which will take place Sept. 5-7 at the Bridgewater Club in Carmel, Ind., where the USA will look to take back the title the Europeans claimed in 2003.

Tway and Kim capture USGA titles

Kevin Tway of Edmond, Okla., defeated Bradley Johnson of Birmingham, Ala., 4 and 3 to win the 58th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship held at Longmeadow Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass., July 18-23

Tway, who recently shared the title at the Wildcat Golf/Wichita Junior Championship, defeated stroke-play medalist and fellow AJGA star Samuel Saunders 4 and 3 on his way to claiming the title.

Meanwhile, In-Kyung Kim of Hilton Head Island, S.C., won the U.S. Girls Junior Championship held at BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho. Kim, champion of the 2005 Hargray Junior Classic, bested In-Bee Park of Las Vegas, 5 and 4, in the championship match.

Lovemark wins Western Amateur

Jamie Lovemark of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., cruised to the title at the 103rd Western Amateur Championship, defeating Chris Wilson 3 and 2 in the finals. Lovemark, a 2004 first-team Rolex Junior All-American, defeated Andres Gonzales, Danny Green, Luke List and Wilson on his way to earning the title.

Lovemark became only the third player to win the Western Junior and the Amateur.
