opens up the bank to help New Orleans |
The
good people of New Orleans labored countless hours over the
past year to organize the Audubon Golf Trail Top 100 presented
by: Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Their goal was simply to make
the event the best tournament on the AJGA schedule. Unfortunately,
their efforts became moot when the event was washed out by Hurricane
Katrina.

Now,
as New Orleans and other communities along the Golf Coast recover
and rebuild their homes and businesses, there are many ways
to help. In a letter to Stephen Hamblin, Arnond Vongvanij offers
a simple suggestion for the would-be participants of the Top
100 event.
The following letter was sent on September 9 to Stephen Hamblin,
executive director of the AJGA. The Fore!Kids Foundation helps
more than 100,000 children in the New Orleans community, primarily
through the proceeds generated from the PGA TOUR event at the
TPC of Louisiana – the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
"The Fore!Kids Foundation’s mission is to raise money
for children’s charities through golf-related events,”
John Subers, President/CEO of the Fore!Kids Foundation, wrote
in an open letter to the PGA TOUR community. “As many
homes and lives have been destroyed through this disaster, this
mission has never been more important than it is now. The social
service agencies our Foundation supports are critical to the
ongoing recovery of family and children in our community.”
By conducting all the fundraising for the AJGA tournament in
New Orleans, The Fore!Kids Foundation is the driving force behind
the event. In the letter, below, Arnond Vongvanij offers a way
to help the organization that has given tremendous help to the
junior golfers of the AJGA:
9/9/2005
Dear Mr. Hamblin,
I was one of the junior golfers who registered to play
at the Audubon Golf Trail Top 100 at New Orleans at the
end of September. I was very excited to play at this tournament
but very sad to find the unfortunate situation that happened
to New Orleans and the people who live there.
Since the tournament has been cancelled and AJGA decided
to give refunds back to all the registered players, I
would like to contribute my refund money to the FORE!Kids
Foundation through the AJGA so that the foundation can
use it to help support children in New Orleans. May I
suggest the AJGA asks other players if they would like
to join me and add up this contribution amount. I strongly
believe that there will be many other junior golfers,
friends of mine that are willing to do the same thing.
This past week my family did make some contribution to
the Red Cross, however I feel that it will never be enough.
Thank you very much for your kind attention. If I can
be of any help, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely yours,
Arnond "Bank" Vongvanij |
