MOON LEADS IN BOYS DIVISION AT 2-UNDER

Morris leads at 79 after a tough first-round in the Girls Division

GREENSBURG, Pa.   Ji Ho Moon of Ellicott City, Md., shot 2-under-par 70 at Totterridge Golf Club to grab the early lead in the Boys Division at the Solutions Consulting Junior Classic. In the Girls Division, Carrie Morris of Tyler, Texas leads at 79.

The Solutions Consulting Junior Classic is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Totterridge Golf Club. The tournament features 99 players, ages 12-18, from 16 states and Canada, including 41 players from Pennsylvania.

Boys Division leader Moon had a solid round with six birdies, hitting every fairway and only recording 22 putts. Moon made a birdie on the difficult dogleg left par-5 No. 15 after he chipped in from 10 yards off the green.

“I played a solid round,” the 15-year-old said. “I kept getting up-and-down and I putted really well. This is a tough course and the greens are very quick.”

Moon is continuing his stellar play after finishing seventh last week at the Randall Parker Shootout at Fieldstone.

Chris Barach of Niskayuna, N.Y., Daniel Obremski of Irwin, Pa., and Clayton Rotz of Chambersburg, Pa., are deadlocked in a tie for second place, one shot behind the leader after carding matching rounds of 1-under-par 71. Rounding out the Boys Division top-five are Grant Doverspike of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jamie Wallace of Moorestown, N.J., who are tied for fourth at even-par.

In the Girls Division, 18-year-old Morris played steady throughout the round. The highlight of her round came on No. 11 after she hit a flop shot from 20 yards out and stuck the ball inches from the hole.

“I putted really well today,” said the Texas Christian University signee. “It’s a great course. I just hope I continue to play well.”

Morris recently tied for seventh at the Lubbock Junior presented by United Supermarkets & Market Street. Her best AJGA finish was a fifth-place showing at the PING Harvey Penick Junior in 2003.

Robyn English of Warwick, R.I., sits one shot back after carding an 80. Finishing in a tie for third in the Girls Division are Brittany Stillwagon of Bloomingdale, Ohio, Jessica Hamilton of Rockville, Md., and Seung-Hyun Lee of Kennett Square, Pa., with identical 82s.
