Performance Based Entry

Step 2: Building a Status

Players will fall into one of three status categories:

(1) FULLY EXEMPT: Players with a top finish at a top-tier national junior tournament (including non-AJGA tournaments).
• Fully Exempt players have first priority into all AJGA Open tournaments. In 2007, on average, 20-30 percent of tournament fields were filled with Fully Exempt players.

(2) TOURNAMENT EXEMPTIONS: Players earn a Tournament Exemption with a top finish at the state, regional or national level.
• Players with multiple Tournament Exemptions have higher priority than a player with one Tournament Exemption. In 2007, on average, 40-60 percent of tournament fields were filled with players at the Tournament Exemption level.

(3) PERFORMANCE STARS: Players earn Performance Stars to assist them in gaining entry into an AJGA Open tournament.
• All players receive one Performance Star for membership with the AJGA. Rising seniors (2009 graduates) receive two Performance Stars. Players who earn four Performance Stars (three for girls) earn a Tournament Exemption and move up to the next status level. In 2007, on average, 20-30 percent of tournament fields were filled at the Performance Star level. However, some of the stronger fields may only be filled with Fully Exempt players and those with Tournament Exemptions.

Important Note: All AJGA members are encouraged to apply for AJGA Open tournaments, regardless of status. Players who do not earn entry into a tournament can apply to the qualifier. To apply for a tournament, a player must submit proof-of-age documentation.
