PERFORMANCE BASED ENTRY

Important Notes and Tips

• Read all Performance Based Entry information carefully and thoroughly.

• Ask questions! The AJGA is here to help you by phone at (877) 373-2542 or by e-mail (ajga@ajga.org).

• Only AJGA members may apply to AJGA tournaments. Non-members may sign up for membership and to Qualifiers on the AJGA Web site.

• Members will start the 2011 season with all Tournament Exemptions and Performance Stars earned in 2010. For example, a junior who earned two Tournament Exemptions in 2010 and used one Tournament Exemption in 2010, will still begin the 2011 season with two Tournament Exemptions. Tournament Exemptions earned through the Qualifier Series Option Policy will only carry over for one year if not used for entry into an AJGA Open tournament.

• A player’s status will be calculated on a two-year cycle. In 2011, a player’s status will be calculated from January 1, 2010, through December 31, 2011. At the beginning of the 2012 season, all 2010 Tournament Exemptions and Performance Stars will be dropped.

• Plan your tournament schedule early to maximize playing opportunities and prevent missed deadlines.

Qualifiers are great opportunities for all players to earn Performance Stars and build their status. The average score to earn a Performance Star in 2010 at a Qualifier was Boys - 79.0, Girls - 82.3.

• Players cannot earn both Performance Stars and Tournament Exemptions at the same event. A player with a top finish will earn either a Tournament Exemption or a Performance Star. For example, a boy who finishes ninth at an AJGA Open tournament will receive three Tournament Exemptions, but will not receive Performance Stars as well for finishing in the top 50 percent of the field.

• Performance Stars earned at a Qualifier with a top 50 percent finish are strictly for those individuals who did not gain entry into the event or earn a Tournament Exemption. Read the Qualifier Series Option Policy for more information.

• When boys have accumulated four Performance Stars (three for girls), they will earn a Tournament Exemption. Their status will automatically update in the Player Center. Once a Tournament Exemption is earned by accumulating Performance Stars, non-2011 graduates revert back to one Performance Star while 2011 graduates revert to two Performance Stars.

• If a non-AJGA event listed has multiple age divisions, Tournament Exemptions and Performance Stars will be earned only in the oldest age or combined division in the championship flight or bracket. If younger and older divisions play from the same yardage then overall results will be used for awarding Performance Based Entry.

• Players will only be rewarded for their best ranking in either the Golfweek/Titleist rankings or the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.

• Tournament Exemptions and Performance Stars are not cumulative in match play events. Only final results are used to calculate number of Tournament Exemptions earned. For example, players do not earn a Tournament Exemption for each match they win, but instead will earn Tournament Exemptions based on their final finish.

• Any player who qualifies for and competes in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship or U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will earn one Tournament Exemption. Players who compete in a regional qualifier and do not advance to the Championship do not receive a Tournament Exemption.

• Any player who qualifies for and competes in the Junior PGA Championship will earn one Performance Star. Players who compete in a regional qualifier and do not advance to the Championship do not receive a Performance Star.

• The Performance Based Entry Boys and Girls Exemption tables are designed as a reference tool for tournament listings, but do not specifically list every tournament that is a part of the Performance Based Entry system. Please refer to the Performance Based Entry tournament list and PBE Tournament Map for specific tournaments and contacts.

• Understanding the Exemption Tables (To view pdf versions of the Exemption Tables, click Boys or Girls)
The columns of the Exemption Table represent what status a player is able to earn for a given finish (Fully Exempt, 3, 2 or 1 Tournament Exemptions). The corresponding finishes are listed on the left side of the chart. For example, for a boy to earn Fully Exempt Status, a top-15 finish (top-16 match play) would be required at a top-tier national event (red box), a top-five finish (top-four match play) would be required at an AJGA Open or select national event (yellow box), etc. The top right corner of the Exemption Table also lists ways for players to earn additional Performance Stars.
