GREGORY GRABS MEDALIST HONORS
AT GREENHILLS QUALIFIER
Ten boys complete field for AJGA Bank of Montreal Future Links
Junior at Greenhills
LONDON, Ontario - Michael Gregory of Bolton, Ontario,
fired a 1-over-par 72 Monday to earn medalist honors at the
AJGA Bank of Montreal Future Links Junior at Greenhills Qualifer.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Bank
of Montreal Future Links Junior at Greenhills Qualifier, held
at the par-71 Greenhills Golf Club, gave 51 boys the opportunity
to earn a spot into the three-round Championship event, which
begins Wednesday in London.
Gregory carded three birdies on the day to help post the low
round. The 18-year-old, who started on No. 15, connected on
a 25-footer for birdie on No. 17 to calm the nerves and get
off to a quick start.
"I started off really well, hitting the first eight greens,"
Gregory said. "I was hitting the ball well and putting
well."
After a bogey on the 370-yard, par-4 fifth, Gregory responded
by draining a 30-footer for birdie on No. 6 to move to 1-under
on the day.
"I had to scramble a little bit in the middle of my round,"
said Gregory, who hit 14 of 18 greens on the day. "But
I made birdie on No. 6 to get back on track. That putt gave
me confidence, then I started making more putts for par."
Five players, including four Ontario natives, finished a shot
off the pace in a tie for second. Michael Cuff of Toronto,
Ontario; Justin Regier of East Amherst, N.Y.; Mikhial Pasic
of London, Ontario; Andrew An of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and
Brian Lee of Oakville, Ontario, each fired matching 73s.
Kevin Fawcett of Newmarket, Ontario; Tyler Edwards of Caledonia,
Ontario; Kheed Ng of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and Mark Sommerfeld
of Waterloo, Ontario, each shot 74 to grab the remaining spots.
The AJGA Bank of Montreal Future Links Junior at Greenhills
will feature 99 players with boys and girls representing 11
states and three Canadian provinces. Seventy-one Canadians,
including 66 juniors from Ontario, are scheduled to appear
in the event.
First-round tee times will begin on Wednesday, August 28 at
7:30 a.m. off the No. 1 tee at Greenhills Golf Club.
