GALLETTI, JR. TURNS UP THE HEAT AT FOOTJOY BOYS INVITATIONAL
After first round of play, 28 boys post scores under par

GREENSBORO, N.C. β€” The links were hot β€” literally and figuratively β€” during the first round of the FootJoy Boys Invitational. Roberto Galletti, Jr. of Clayton, Calif., led some of the nation's best junior golfers with an 8-under-par 64, as temperatures soared above 90 degrees.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the FootJoy Boys Invitational is being held at the Forest Oaks Country Club, home of the PGA TOUR's Chrysler Classic of Greensboro. Ninety-nine junior golfers from 23 states and three countries including China, Peru and Australia, are competing in the 72-hole event. Thirty-nine Rolex Junior All-Americans are in the field.

Galletti birdied the first four holes and finished the day with nine birdies and one bogey.

β€œI felt like I could birdie every hole,” he said. β€œThe feeling came mid-round. I began to put the ball into play and make putts when they counted.”

With 54 holes to play, Galletti said staying calm will hopefully lead him to a top-five finish and one step closer to an invitation to the 2005 Canon Cup in August.

Tom Glissmeyer of Colorado Springs, Colo., said he let instincts take over while firing a 7-under-par 65. Glissmeyer just missed qualifying for the 2005 U.S. Open, but is pleased with his first round. β€œI feel like I've gotten back on track. I hit off the tee well and putted well. It was a relaxed round, I didn't put any pressure on myself,” Glissmeyer said.

On the heels of Galletti and Glissmeyer are Noah Goldman of Longwood, Fla., in third place with a 6-under-par 66 and Drew Younts of Stokesdale, N.C., with a 5-under-par 67. Tied for fifth place with a 4-under-par 68 are Marc Gladson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mu Hu of Shen Zhen, China, Jordan Payne of West Memphis, Ark., and Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C. Kyle Stanley of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Sihwan Kim of Fullerton, Calif., are tied for ninth with 3-under-par 69s. Twenty-eight juniors finished the day under par.

The second round starts Wednesday at 7 a.m. Tee times run through 11:48 a.m.
