HADLEY VAULTS INTO LEAD FOLLOWING 4-UNDER-PAR 68 ROUND
Kim remains in top spot in the Girls Division

BLUFFTON, S.C. -With tee times delayed 30 minutes due to soggy conditions from Wednesday's intense thunderstorms, Chesson Hadley from Raleigh, N.C., fired a 4-under-par 68 to take the Boys Division lead with a two-day score of 135 at the 12th annual Hargray Junior Classic. In-Kyung Kim of Hilton Head Island, S.C., improved her first-round score by one stroke carding a 67 on Thursday.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Hargray Junior Classic features 84 players, ages 12-18, from 13 states and Peru. The event is being held at Hampton Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C.

Eighteen-year-old Hadley, who is bogey-free on the tournament, carded four birdies in round two. Hadley was consistent with both his driver and irons as he hit 12 fairways and 17 greens in regulation, but struggled on the greens carding 31 putts.

“I had a lot of putts today,” Hadley said. “I hit a lot of fairways and greens, but with my putting game struggling, I did just enough to convert.”

With heavy rains starting in the early afternoon and continuing into the late night Wednesday, the course soaked up a lot of the water, making the fairways and greens soft.

“The rain allowed me to play more aggressively,” Hadley said. “I was able to go at pins and fire it in.”

Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., and first-round leader Lion Kim of Lake Mary, Fla., are tied for second place at 8-under-par 136. Rounding out the top five is Jay Vandeventer of Bristol, Va., and Alan Lee of Lima, Peru, who are tied for fourth at 137.

In the Girls Division, In-Kyung Kim carded six birdies, including birdies on her first three holes, en route to a 5-under-par 67 for a 135 tournament total.

“That was a great start to my day,” Kim said. “I only missed two greens all afternoon and I had a lot of putts inside of 10 feet.”

Six strokes back of Kim at 3-under-par 141 is Alexandra Bodemann of Palm City, Fla. Rebecca Durham of St. Simons Island, Ga., sits in third at 71-71—142.

Hargray Communications Group, a leader in the telecommunications business, is in its 11th year as title sponsor of the Hargray Junior Classic. Hargray is actively involved in supporting a variety of sporting events on Hilton Head Island.
