ROCKWELL, LEE CAPTURE MEDALIST HONORS AT SRIXON QUALIFIER
27 Boys and Girls earn entry to Randall Parker Shootout at Wild Quail
WYOMING, Del. – Following a one-hour, fifty-six minute severe weather delay, Chris Rockwell of Owings Mills, Md., fired a 5-under-par 67 to take home medalist honors in the Boys Division during the Srixon Qualifier for the Randall Parker Shootout at Wild Quail. Kasi Lee of Paramus, N.J., carded a 2-under-par 70 to earn bragging rights in the Girls Division.
The American Junior Golf Association conducted the Srixon Qualifier for the Randall Parker Shootout at the Wild Quail Golf Club. Twenty-one boys and six girls qualified for the 99-player tournament that begins Tuesday, July 19.
Rockwell started the day off on the right foot, as he birdied the first hole en route to five birdies on the day. With his consistent play he was able to play bogey-free.
“Today I played real steady,” Rockwell said. “I did not make many mistakes and I did not come close to a bogey all day.”
Also qualifying in the Boys Division are Paul Park of Wayne, N.J.; David Taraschi of Haddonfield, N.J.; Chris Mullhaupt of Bradenton, Fla.; David Brown of Stewartsville, N.J.; Andrew Mason of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; Andrew Goyzueta of Florida, N.Y.; David Gilberg of Scarsdale, N.Y.; Ravi Coutinho of Peoria, Ariz.; Colin Smith of West Chester, Pa.; Aaron Hwang of Port Washington, N.Y.; Mike Meisenzahl of Medford, N.J.; Tyler Yearley of Newtown, Pa.; Scott McWaters of Monroe, N.Y.; Austin Starrett of Tulsa, Okla.; Jason Bernstein of Paoli, Pa.; Brett Mattingly of Manlius, N.Y.; Jordan Kelly of Brunswick, Maine; Sam Horowitz of Hewlett, N.Y.; Paul Moxon of Longwood, Fla., and Joe Foley of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.
Earning a tournament exemption in lieu of playing in the tournament are Skyler Hong of San Diego; Gene Yang of East Brunswick, N.J.; Michael Corbo of Mendham, N.J.; Pieter Lamley of Phoenixville, Pa.; Brett Falkoff of Lafayette Hill, Pa.; Michael Cress of Dublin, Ohio; Josh Sadler of Elizabethtown, Pa.; Tony Jaffa of Owings Mills, Md.; Keith Remizowski of Pittsford, N.Y.; Zachary Drescher of Landisville, Pa., and Stephen Dressel of Malvern, Pa.
In the Girls Division, Lee fought off back pain and lack of sleep finishing four strokes ahead of second place finisher Jaclyn Sweeney of Andover, Mass., who finished with a 74.
“I just got back from Korea and I am suffering from jet lag,” Lee said. “My back was hurting from the flight and I was thinking of withdrawing, but I took a nap during the delay and that helped me out.”
Other qualifiers in the Girls Division are Jaclyn Sweeney of Andover, Mass.; Stephanie Kim of Bayside, N.Y.; Deirdre Moran of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; Stefanie Kenoyer of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Samantha Tejada of Ashland, Mass.
Kelly Lynch of Severna Park, Md.; Kaci Boyd of Ashland, Ky., and Sarah Bejgrowicz of Lancaster, Pa., all earned a tournament exemption in lieu of playing in the Randall Parker Shootout at Wild Quail.
