FINAL ROUND CANCELLED DUE TO STORMS
Gray earns medalist honors after opening-round 70
CELEBRATION, Fla. — Mitchell Gray of Florence, S.C., Saturday's leader at the Medicus Preseason Junior at Mystic Dunes at 1-under-par 70, was awarded medalist honors after Sunday's final round was cancelled due to severe weather.
After the first round, tee times were changed to a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start in hopes of completing play before the threat of inclement weather. The strong rain, wind and lightning that were predicted all week forced the evacuation of the golf course at 9:18 a.m. After more than two hours of delay, the decision was made by the Tournament Committee to cancel the final round due to course conditions and the threat of additional weather delays.
Mateusz Jedrzejczyk of Warsaw, Poland, Ian McConnell of Riverview, Fla., and Andrew Tursky of Hillsborough, N.J., finished second at even-par 71. Chase Sargent of Orlando finished fifth at 1-over-par 72.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Medicus Preseason Junior at Mystic Dunes was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Mystic Dunes Golf Club. The 83-player field features players from 18 states and Poland. The course played at 6,701 yards.
