Ernst keeps the lead in the Girls Division with 4-under-par136

RINGGOLD, Ga. —  James White of Acworth, Ga., recorded a two round total of 8-under-par 132 to lead after the second round of the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic at WindStone Golf Club. Austin Ernst of Seneca, S.C., carded a two-day total of 4-under-par 136 to keep the lead in the Girls Division after the second- round play.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic is being held at WindStone Golf Club. The tournament field consisted of 71 boys and girls from 18 states and one foreign country. The Boys Division is being played at 6,469 yards and the Girls Division is at 5,667 yards.

Setting the new AJGA 18-hole record of 9-under-par 61 Tuesday, White continued his steady play with four birdies on Nos. 2, 8, 12, and 17 to keep his two day lead. White said if he can play as well as he has, he could walk away with a win Thursday.

“I didn't put a lot of pressure on myself, I played as good as I could today and knew I wouldn't be able to have a repeat,” White said. “I just tried to keep going until I got the feeling I had yesterday and that is my attitude for tomorrow; to be comfortable with how I'm playing.”

After round two other Boys Division leaders are Parker Houston of Greensboro, N.C., recording a 6-under-par 134 and in second place. Derek Chang of Alpharetta, Ga., is in third place with a 5-under-par 135, Michael Lee of Columbus, Ga., is fourth at 3-under-par 137 and Jin Chung of Duluth, Ga., in fifth at 2-under-par 138.

Ernst, who carded 1-under-par 69 Wednesday, read the greens well with five birdies on the back nine after hitting two flagsticks and going on for one putt and par out. Ernst said she knew she needed to shoot even par or better to keep the lead as she approaches her first time in the leader pairings in an AJGA event.

“After three birdies in a row, I knew I had to keep going and not think about it,” Ernst said. “I'm playing in a great field and as I enter into tomorrow, I'm trying to focus on my game, not on the competitors”.

Rounding out the Girls Division in second place is Stacey Kim of Columbus, Ga., at 3-under-par 137 and in third place Joy Kim of Duluth, Ga., carded 2-under-par 138.
