BROWN TAKES LEAD IN BOYS DIVISION AT DALHOUSIE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Wagstaff gains the lead by two strokes

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. β€” After the second round of the American Junior Golf Association's Dalhousie Junior Championship, Tyler Brown of Lee's Summit, Mo., leads the Boys Division after carding a 2-under-par 70-72 β€” 142. Stephanie Wagstaff of Asheville, N.C., leads the Girls Division by two strokes after posting a 6-over-par 150.

Conducted by the AJGA, the Dalhousie Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Dalhousie Golf Club. The 144-player field features players from 28 states and Canada. Following the second round the field will be cut in half to include the top 54-boys and ties and top 18-girls and ties. The course is being played as a 6,970-yard par 72 for the Boys Division and a 6,063-yard par 72 in the Girls Division.

Brown said decision making was a big factor in his game, Wednesday. After bogeying Nos. 1 and 2, Brown said he knew he was still at even-par for the tournament so he needed to start making good decisions. Carding a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine, Brown birdied Nos. 10 and 14 for a 1-under-par 35 on the back nine.

β€œI hit a lot more greens in regulation,” Brown said. β€œThat helps boost my confidence.”

Ty Spinella of Aledo, Texas, and Drew Miller of Clarksville, Tenn., are tied for second, posting 1-over-par 145 tournament totals. Tied for fourth are Chase Lovett-Woodsum of Boston and Tyler Mitchell of Cadiz, Ky., carding 2-over-par 146s.

In the Girls Division, Wagstaff contributed her capture of the lead to knowing what she needed to change coming in to the second round.

β€œI knew the few holes that I had bogeyed,” Wagstaff said. β€œI just wanted to shoot well and not worry about the lead.”

Wagstaff said hitting good irons helped a lot as she birdied No. 13 and saved a par on No. 14 after hitting her tee shot in the water, helping her fire a 2-over-par 74 for the day.

Going into the final round, Wagstaff said she will continue to play it safe and try to focus on making good putts.

Currently tied for second place 2 strokes back of Wagstaff are Courtney Harter of Clearwater, Fla., and Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., both carding 8-over-par 152 tournament totals.
