GRUBER, SU, KIM ENTER FINAL ROUND WITH THREE-WAY-TIE AT PACIFIC NORTHWEST INTERNATIONAL PRESENTED BY JEFF TROESCH
Packard's ace on No.3 at Trophy Lake Golf & Casting gives her lead

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — Quinn Gruber of Aptos, Calif., Dong Su of Richmond, British Columbia, and C.J. Kim of Chandler, Ariz., are currently tied for first place with a two-day total of 144, after the second round of the Pacific Northwest International Junior presented by Jeff Troesch. In the Girls Division, Hillary Packard of Thousand Oaks, Calif. drained a hole-in-one to help her take the lead for a two-day total of 75-70—145.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Pacific Northwest International Junior presented by Jeff Troesch is a 54-hole stroke play event featuring 57 boys and 21 girls. Included in the 78-player field are 18 players from Washington and 40 from California. The Boys Division plays from tees set at 6,969 yards and the Girls Division plays from tees set 5,904 yards.

Gruber said his accurate putting saved him during the second round and gave him the edge he needed to turn in a 1-under-par 73 for the day. Holing 13 par putts, Gruber gave all the credit to his patience on the green.

“Patience on the greens was a key factor for me today,” Gruber said. “Tomorrow I just need to remember to be patient with every shot to be able to have a chance to win the tournament.”

Rounding out the top-five in the Boys Division is Jarred Bossio of Olympia, Wash., who finished the second round at 71-72—145.

After her tee shot on No.3, Packard's ball landed perfectly on the green and rolled in for eagle, giving her the boost she needed to turn in a 2-under-par 70 for the second round.

“I was really excited because it was my first career hole-in-one,” Packard said. “Going into the round I just wanted to play the best I could, I never expected a hole-in-one.”

Rounding out the top-three in the Girls Division after the second round is Tiffany Dong of Sacramento Calif., at 75-71—146 in second place and Nicole Zhang of Calgary, Alberta at 78-71—149 in third place.
