KELLERMANN FIRES 7-UNDER-PAR 65 TO SECURE VICTORY IN PENSACOLA
Millsap bounces back to win Girls Division

PENSACOLA, Fla. β€” Pete Kellermann of Jacksonville, Fla., carded a final-round 7-under-par 65 Thursday and finished with a three-day total of 12-under-par 204 to take home the championship in the Boys Division of the Jerry Pate/Andrews Institute Southern Junior. In the Girls Division, Haley Millsap shot a 1-under-par 71 Thursday to finish with a tournament-total 2-over-par 218 to notch her second AJGA victory of 2007.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Jerry Pate/Andrews Institute Southern Junior was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Pensacola County Club. The 83-player field featured players from 15 states. The par-72 course was played at 6,762 yards for the Boys Division and 6,043 yards for the Girls Division.

Kellermann, who led the field after Wednesday's second round, made a strong statement in his AJGA debut by scattering eight birdies and an eagle in his final round.

β€œIt feels great to come out and win, especially in my first event,” Kellerman said. β€œIt was a great couple days of golf for me. I was driving well, had solid iron shots and was able to putt amazing all week.”

Despite being new to the AJGA, Kellermann, a mainstay on the Florida Junior Golf Tour, is no stranger to success. He finished tied for 7th at the Florida Boys Junior Championship that was held earlier in July.

David Zickler of Florence, Ala., and Zeyu He of Bradenton, Fla., finished tied for second in the Boys Division with three-day totals of 7-under-par 209. Minghao Wang of Reunion, Fla., carded a tournament total of 5-under-par 211 to finish in third. Gary Quinn of Anthem, Ariz., and Alex Frankel of Atlanta tied for fifth place with 4-under-par 212s.

Millsap, who was three shots off the lead at the start of Thursday's round, didn't get down on herself after a rough finish in the second round.

β€œI just went home and calmed down a little bit and that helped out a lot,” Millsap said. β€œI knew [the round] could go either way. Luckily for me I started playing well right away and just played solid golf the whole day.”

Notching her third junior victory of the summer, Millsap said she wasn't fazed by all the attention being put on her as a local player with high expectations in this tournament.

β€œI actually think I do better if there is some pressure on me to impress people,” Millsap said. β€œIt's a comfortable feeling for me. It just feels good to win again.”

Jessica Schall of Lake Mary, Fla., carded a three-day total of 4-over-par 220 to finish in second place behind Millsap. Lauren Stratton of Spring Hill, Tenn., finished in third place with a tournament total of 6-over-par 222.
